10,000 Youth Seek Climate Workx Jobs in Narok County
Over 10,000 young people in Narok County have registered for the six-month Climate Workx (Kazi Mtaani) programme.
Narok County Commissioner Kipkech Lotiatia said 1,075 youth aged between 18 and 35 years will be recruited across the nine sub-counties.
He spoke when he chaired the County Implementation Committee (CIC) meeting, held at the Commissioner’s boardroom, where he insisted that only the vulnerable but disciplined people will be considered for the job.
Among the activities that the youth will be tasked to carry out are establishing nursery beds, greening of highways, road construction, maintenance and cleaning of roadways.
Other activities include cleaning streets, markets, drainage systems and informal settlements.
He assured the residents of fairness when selecting the beneficiaries, saying the Selection Committee will be keen on gender balance and family background so as not to pick two people from the same family.
Thirty per cent of the available positions will be reserved for persons with disabilities, as support mechanisms will be provided to ensure they participate fully.
The six-month programme in Narok targets to plant over 100,000 tree seedlings in Maasai Mau Forest and other parts of the county so as to boost tree cover in the County.
Commissioner Lotiatia discouraged political interference in the programme, saying the selected youth should remain patriotic to their country.
Climate Workx aims to tackle unemployment and underemployment among young people and strengthen Kenya’s climate resilience through grassroots environmental conservation.
The programme also targets to create a generation of young people committed to national development and environmentally conscious and socially responsible citizens.
