Objectives of the Assignment

The Accountant plays a crucial role within the finance team, ensuring adherence to financial policies, activity procedures, regulations, controls, and reporting systems. Responsibilities include accounting, financial analysis support, financial reporting, and compliance.

Tasks & Responsibilities

  • Prepare vendor and payroll tax forms, ensuring timely submission.
  • Submit monthly reconciliation reports and monitor partner/vendor payment schedules.
  • Assist in preparing information for contractual financial reporting requirements.
  • Conduct daily reviews of backup documentation for completeness, accuracy, and compliance.
  • Ensure accounting policies are in line with the Kenyan Tax Code and DAI regulations.
  • Initiate wire requests for field activity implementation and verify vendor invoices.
  • Process invoices, advances, reimbursements, checks, and wire transfer payments accurately and timely.
  • Perform monthly bank reconciliations and monitor bank account balances.
  • Maintain file management systems for documentation and manage petty cash according to policy.
  • Utilize DAI’s accounting and operations systems for documentation and troubleshooting technical issues.
  • Prepare project expense vouchers, ensuring accuracy of expense coding.
  • Handle tax payments, tracking, recording, and reporting to Kenyan tax authorities and USAID.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or equivalent.
  • 6+ years of relevant experience, preferably working on USAID-funded activities.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA-K) qualification.
  • Knowledge of internal controls, audit processes, and report writing skills in English.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel, email, and word processing.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize tasks, and work effectively within a team.
