Position Overview:

The Child Protection Researcher will collaborate with the IRC’s Airbel team and various stakeholders to advance the child protection research agenda. This role involves conducting research on topics such as parenting programs, child recruitment prevention, child labor, and psychosocial support for children and adolescents in crisis situations.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate child protection research studies in collaboration with research and program teams.
  • Ensure adherence to IRC research standards and ethical guidelines.
  • Design survey tools and protocols and lead data collection efforts.
  • Support data analysis and report writing.
  • Contribute to the development of a dissemination strategy for research findings.
  • Provide advisory support on child protection research studies.
  • Contribute to policy reports and academic articles.

Job Requirements:

Education: Master’s or PhD in public health, sociology, economics, child development, or related field.
Experience: Minimum 6-8 years in research related to violence against children, child protection, or humanitarian emergencies.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Proficiency in qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis.
  • Ability to collaborate across sectors and projects.
  • Knowledge of ethical principles in sensitive research areas.
  • Experience in child protection research in humanitarian settings.
  • Strong communication and writing skills.
  • Track record of research publications and funding.
  • Commitment to Gender Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion principles.
  • Proficiency in English; French is highly preferred, Spanish, Swahili, or other languages beneficial.

Working Environment:

Standard office environment with up to 30% travel to countries of implementation.
