Space for Giants, an international conservation organization, is seeking a Conservation Science Programmes Intern to provide support to the Conservation Science team in managing data flow, storage, analysis, and conducting research on various thematic areas. This internship offers an opportunity to gain practical experience in conservation within a dynamic and supportive environment.

Role Summary:

The Conservation Science Intern will assist with data management, analysis, and research activities to maximize the efficiency of monitoring and evaluating conservation impact. This role involves working on projects related to human-elephant conflict, elephant tracking, and ecological research.

Job Description:

Performance Criteria:

  • Improve storage and management of data on human-elephant conflict incidents and camera trap images.
  • Support GIS data cleaning, sourcing, and upload to ArcGIS online and EarthRanger.
  • Assist with data analysis and report writing for various projects.
  • Support the development of manuscripts for scientific journals using existing Space for Giants data.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by team members.

Person Specification:

Key Skills:

  • Experienced in project management and impact measurement
  • Efficient, Hard-Working, Driven, Innovative, and Organized

Experience, Knowledge & Competencies:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Wildlife Management, Biological or Social Sciences, or a related field
  • Excellent GIS mapping skills
  • Understanding of Earth Ranger, SMART, and Survey 123 is advantageous
  • Ability to work in a “bush” environment
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Tech-savvy with proficiency in Google Suite or Microsoft Office

  • This internship does not provide compensation but offers a facilitation fee to assist with expenses.
