The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is a leading international non-governmental organization, operating in over 40 countries worldwide, with a primary focus on promoting durable solutions for refugees and displaced populations. The DRC Regional Office in Nairobi provides management support and strategic direction to DRC programs in East Africa & the Great Lakes region. DRC is currently leading a consortium of partners in implementing the EU-funded program, Boresha Nabad, across Mandera (Kenya), Dollo Ado (Ethiopia), and Gedo (Somalia).

Overall Purpose of the Role:

The Finance Coordinator will be a key member of the Boresha Project Management Unit (PMU), contributing to overall planning, implementation, and management of the project. Based in Nairobi, with 20% travel to field locations, the Finance Coordinator supports day-to-day financial duties, reviews budgets, and serves as the lead finance focal point for various stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead on assessing partner finance capacity and provide technical assistance for capacity strengthening initiatives.
  • Set up proper systems for monitoring compliance for Consortium and Implementing Partners.
  • Monitor financial aspects of partners in line with donor requirements and agreed policies.
  • Conduct regular compliance visits and make recommendations for improvements.
  • Oversee financial progress against agreed targets and review partners’ finance reports.
  • Organize and lead monthly reviews meetings, prepare budget modifications, and minimize financial risks.
  • Ensure implementation of audit recommendations and compliance with DRC and EU regulations.
  • Coordinate with consortium members and NGO liaison bodies for tax compliance.
  • Provide financial management support for close-out and external audit processes.

Education and Experience:

  • Master’s degree in finance/accounting or business administration.
  • Minimum 5 years of international practical experience in financial management.
  • Experience in managing large budgets and providing technical guidance.
  • Working experience with relevant donors and proficiency in Excel.


  • Contract: One-year contract with the possibility of extension.
  • Duty Station: Nairobi, Mogadishu, Addis Ababa.
  • Availability: March 2024.
  • Reporting Line: Chief of Party – Boresha.
