Principal Legal Officer
Job Ref: HR: KP1/5B.2/1/3/1167
Reporting to the Manager, Board & Regulatory Affairs / Legal Services, the Principal Legal Officer, will be responsible for Legal, Regulatory and Company Secretarial Services and supporting the management on all related legal matters concerning the Company.
The key tasks & duties for the position include;
- Defining the necessary level of knowledge on existing and emerging regulatory compliance requirements across the Company.
- Developing the annual compliance work plan that reflects the Company’s unique characteristics.
- Providing guidance, advice, and/or training and educational programs, to improve business’ understanding of related laws and regulatory requirements.
- Coordinating efforts related to audits, reviews, and examinations.
- Developing policies and programs that encourage managers and employees to report suspected fraud and other improprieties, without fear of retaliation.
- Coordinating internal compliance review and monitoring activities, including periodic reviews of departments.
- Preparing and drafting amendments to legislations affecting the Company.
- Preparing the Company’s comments and feedback on proposed legislations.
- Participate in public forums where legislations affecting the Company are being discussed.
- Prepare compliance matrix and risk register for the Company.
- Lobby the relevant stakeholders on legislative issues affecting the Company.
- Regularly review the compliance plan in the context of the regulatory changes.
- Ensuring adequate legal protection for Company property and other interest.
- Liaising with external lawyers on court cases involving the Company.
- Participation in resolution of commercial and contractual disputes.
- Negotiation, drafting, reviewing, monitoring and evaluation of all contracts and agreements.
- Undertake provision of legal advice to the Company.
Appointment Specification
- Bachelor’s Degree in Law from a recognized Institution.
- Post Graduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law.
- Advocate of the High Court of Kenya with a valid practicing certificate.
- Member of the Law Society of Kenya in good standing
- Minimum of eight (8) years post admission experience in a busy law firm or public/commercial entity, five (5) of which should have been at a Supervisory level.
- Proficiency in computer applications.
Principal Records Officer

Reporting to the Manager, Legal Services, the Principal Records Officer, will be responsible for Legal, Regulatory and Company Secretarial Services and supporting the management on all related matters concerning the Company.
The key tasks & duties for the position are;
- Formulation and implementation of records policies, norms, guidelines and procedures.
- Planning and coordination of statutory record audits in the Company.
- Conducting regular records survey, appraisal and disposal.
- Conducting regular records management trainings.
- Ensuring that records policies and procedures comply with relevant legal requirements and best practices.
- Planning and implementation of relevant records activities and programs to enhance records management.
- Liaison with other Departments/ Divisions/ Regions to ensure effective management and preservation of records.
- Preservation and disaster management programs for records in the Company.
- Participating in the development of records retention/disposal schedules with departments.
Appointment Specification
- Master’s Degree from a recognized Institution.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Archives and Records Management, Information Management, Information Science, Library Science or any other relevant and equivalent qualifications from a recognized Institution.
- Minimum of eight (8) years’ relevant work experience, five (5) of which should have been at a supervisory level.
- Proficiency in computer applications.
- Professional qualification and membership to a professional body (where applicable).
Senior Legal Officer

Reporting to the Principal Legal Officer, in Legal, Regulatory Affairs & Company Secretary Division, the Senior Legal Officer, will be responsible for Legal, Regulatory and Company Secretarial Services and supporting the management on all related legal matters concerning the Company.

- Checking for activities in the legislative environment that have an impact on the Company’s operations.
- Preparing and drafting amendments to legislations affecting the Company.
- Preparing the Company’s comments and feedback on proposed legislations.
- Participate in public forums where legislations affecting the Company are being discussed.
- Prepare compliance matrix and risk register for the Company.
- Lobby the relevant stakeholders on legislative issues affecting the Company.

Legal Officer III

Reporting to the Senior Legal Officer in Legal, Regulatory Affairs & Company Secretary Division, the Legal Officer III will be responsible for Legal, Regulatory and Company Secretarial Services and supporting the management on all
related legal matters concerning the Company.
The key tasks & duties for the position include;
- Provide legal advice to all departments of the Company in various areas including but not limited to commercial and corporate transactions for protection of the Company’s interests.
- Liaise with Company advocates and ensure efficient and proper provision of legal advice and consultancy services.
- Draw, negotiate, vet and ensure execution of contracts and agreements emanating from all departments of the Company.
- Ensure conditions under the contract are strictly adhered to.
- Conduct legal research and analysis on various areas of law as may be assigned from time to time.
- Prepare and file legal documents at court registries, such as plaints, statements of defenses, response to claims, appeals, list of documents and witnesses, witness statements, bundle of documents, applications, etc.
- Represent the Company in courts (Superior and Subordinate Courts), tribunals, and before government agencies

Reporting to the Legal Officer, in Legal, Regulatory Affairs & Company Secretary Division, the Legal Assistant, will be responsible for handling court processes and records management on legal matters concerning the Company.
The key tasks & duties for the position are;
- Receiving and undertaking service of court process.
- Opening court files, maintaining records, printing, photocopying and scanning documents, closing files recommended for closure.
- Filing Company pleadings at the respective court registries.
- Fixing court dates and updating the court and bring-up diaries.
- Undertaking safe custody and retrieval of court files.
- Handling correspondence, acknowledgement of receipt of service of the court process on behalf of the Company.
- Conducting official searches at the lands registry, Companies registry, motor vehicles registry and government printers and attending court registries to peruse court files.
- Registering and collecting legal documents at the relevant registries.
- Preparing and dispatching notices, hearings, mentions and drafting decrees and orders for filing and service.
- Updating legal statutes as required.
- Establish and maintain the Company’s filing system to support the company’s record keeping needs and keep the filing system up to date at all times.
- Undertaking research when called upon.
Appointment Specification
- Diploma in Law from a recognized Institution.
- Possess a current Court Process Server Certificate.
- Three (3) years’ work experience in a busy and reputable law firm.
- Diploma in Information Technology or Records Management will be an added advantage.
