Raila calls for drastic cut in fuel prices, cites global trends
Raila demands Ksh.50 cut in fuel prices, says global market has dropped
Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition party leader Raila Odinga has urged the government to slash the prices of petroleum products by Ksh.45-50 per litre, saying that the global market prices have fallen significantly.
Mr. Odinga made the remarks on Saturday in Merrueshi village in Kajiado East Constituency, where he had joined a thanksgiving ceremony for the area MP Kakuta ole Maimai, who was elected in the last general election.
The opposition leader said it was unjust for the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) to maintain high fuel prices, despite the drop in the world market prices.
He said the prices should be lowered to ease the burden of the high cost of living on Kenyans.
“We have news that the price of oil in the world market has gone down, so they should reduce the price of fuel by 45 shillings per litre this month…not just five or ten shillings…45 or 50 shillings per litre because the price has gone down very much in the world market,” he said.
