Introduction:

ChildFund International seeks a qualified Research Consultant to investigate the intergenerational impact of climate change on children and women in North Horr sub-county, Marsabit County. This consultancy aims to contribute to strengthening the evidence base for policies and interventions addressing climate change impacts on women’s empowerment, child protection, education, health, and more.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct research on the impact of climate change on children and women’s rights in North Horr sub-county.
  • Analyze gender-specific effects of climate change on health, education, economic empowerment, and mental well-being.
  • Assess community-level coping mechanisms and resilience-building initiatives.
  • Review existing policies and institutional frameworks to identify gaps and recommend improvements.

Specific Objectives:

  • Evaluate climate change impacts on health, nutrition, and access to services.
  • Assess women’s economic empowerment in light of climate change.
  • Examine climate change effects on education, mental well-being, and civic participation.
  • Explore community-level coping strategies and policy effectiveness.
  • Analyze food security and market access under climate change conditions.

Methodology:

  • Use qualitative methods such as interviews, focus group discussions, and document reviews.
  • Engage stakeholders including ChildFund staff, government departments, and community members.
  • Collaborate closely with ChildFund’s technical team and project coordinators.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Climate Change, Sustainable Development, or related fields (PhD preferred).
  • Extensive experience in climate change research, preferably with child-focused organizations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English and work collaboratively in interdisciplinary teams.
