The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) is a part-time constitutional commission established under Article 171 of the Constitution and its membership comprise of: The Chief Justice who is the Chairperson One Supreme Court judge; One Court of Appeal judge One High Court judge One Magistrate The Attorney General Two advocates (one woman and one man).
Resident Magistrate – 100 Posts

Key Duties and Responsibilities::
- Presiding as a Resident Magistrate in any court station in Kenya with jurisdiction as stipulated in various statutes;
- Performing Deputy Registrars duties as stipulated in various statues;
- Overseeing the operations of the court(s) and management of staff under his/her charge;
- Carrying out a wide range of administrative functions for those heading stations.assigned
Constitutional and Statutory Requirements for Appointment:
For appointments to the position of Resident Magistrate, the applicant must possess the following minimum requirements set out in Section 32(2) of the Judicial Service Act:
- Be an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya;
- Hold a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree or its equivalent from a recognized University.
- Hold a postgraduate diploma in law from the Kenya School of Law or an exemption by the Council of Legal Education or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
- Admission to the Roll of Advocates.
- Be of high moral character, integrity, and impartiality (meet the requirements of Chapter Sic of the Constitution on Leadership and Integrity).
- Demonstratable management skills.
- Proficiency in computer applications.
- Have no pending complaints with the Advocates Complaints Commission or the Disciplinary Committee.
Job Requirements: Academic and Professional Qualifications:
- Hold a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree or its equivalent from a recognized University
- Proficiency in computer applications.
- Admission to the Roll of Advocates
- Hold a postgraduate diploma in law from the Kenya School of Law or an exemption by the Council of Legal Education or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
- Have at least three (3) years’ post admission experience either in legal practice or other relevant employment.
