Baringo Banditry: Two Attackers Killed, Two AK-47s Recovered

Police officers killed two bandits who tried to raid a village in Baringo County on Sunday. The security team, which was on patrol, ambushed the attackers and seized two AK-47 rifles and 21 bullets.

The incident happened in Kapturo village, Bartabwa ward. Baringo County Police Commander Julius Kiragu said the officers acted swiftly and professionally to stop the bandits.

This was the second banditry attack in the county in a week. On Thursday, bandits shot and wounded a 19-year-old herder and stole some livestock in Ngaratuko area, Saimo Soi ward.

Baringo North MP Joseph Makilap condemned the attacks and urged the security officers to intensify their operations.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki also expressed his concern over the rising cases of banditry in the Northern Rift Valley. He said the government was committed to ending the violence and restoring peace in the region.

Kindiki said the government had made significant progress in fighting the bandits, but more needed to be done. He said he had held a meeting with the heads of various security agencies and operation commanders to review the strategy and performance of Operation Maliza Uhalifu, a multi-agency force that involves the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) and the National Police Service (NPS).

He said the operation would be restructured to improve its management, command and control. He also said the National Police Reservists (NPR) would be reorganised to support the NPS and KDF in the operation.
