Plan International Kenya (PIK)

Plan International Kenya (PIK), operational since 1982, focuses on long-term development, implementing programs to enhance children’s well-being in various regions of Kenya. Under the current Country Strategy (July 2021 – June 2026), PIK aims to end teenage pregnancies and gender-based violence against girls, aligning with strategic objectives in sexual and reproductive health and rights, gender-based violence prevention, crisis response, climate change adaptation, and youth-led job creation.

About the Role

The Senior Business Development Coordinator (SBDC) will work under the Business Development Manager to develop and realize an ambitious business development country strategy. Responsibilities include market research, bid development, partnership building, and new business identification. The role requires strong problem-solving, strategic thinking, and collaboration skills to drive innovations and achieve results in a dynamic environment.

Accountabilities and Main Work Activities

  1. Development of Opportunities (40%)
    • Prepare concept notes and proposals for donors
    • Monitor and document new business development opportunities
    • Track opportunities in Plan Kenya’s business development pipeline
  2. Representation, Partnerships Engagement, and Networking (10%)
    • Build strategic partnerships for resource mobilization
    • Represent Plan Kenya to donors and partners
    • Attend forums and meetings to advance Plan’s interests
  3. Project Start-up and Contracting (10%)
    • Develop Fund Agreement Documents
    • Coordinate with Grants Department for project contracting
    • Support new project start-up workshops
  4. Support a High Performing Team (20%)
    • Identify staff training needs
    • Develop training materials and mentor staff in proposal development
    • Contribute to team meetings and overall departmental operation
  5. YODA Rollout and Integration (10%)
    • Perform YODA specific functions
    • Support integration with business development processes
  6. Safeguarding Children and Young People (Safeguarding) and Gender Equality and Inclusion (GEI) (5%)
    • Uphold Safeguarding and GEI policies
    • Orient program staff on safeguarding and GEI principles
    • Ensure policies are embedded in project design and implementation
  7. Other Duties (5%)
    • Perform other assigned duties as needed

Qualifications/Experience Essential:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience
  • 7 years of relevant experience in donor-funded grants/contracts management
  • 3 years in a leadership/managerial role
  • Experience in proposal writing and concept development
  • Understanding of donor policies and procedures
  • Proficiency in English

Qualifications/Experience Desirable:

  • Master’s degree in relevant discipline
  • Knowledge of key programme areas such as child protection and economic empowerment
  • Ability to influence without power
