Introduction

Refugee Consortium of Kenya (RCK): Established in 1998, RCK is a national NGO focused on protecting and promoting the well-being, voice, and dignity of displaced and host populations in Kenya. RCK implements its mission through various strategic pillars, including legal aid and governance, peace and social justice, women and girls’ empowerment, mental health and psycho-social support, and organizational development.

Background

RCK has secured funding to support its 2023-2027 Strategic Plan and seeks to hire a legal professional as a consultant to provide capacity building/training to refugees, host communities, government officials, and other stakeholders. The consultant will collaborate closely with RCK staff to achieve project goals and objectives.

Scope of the Consultancy

The consultant will be responsible for organizing capacity strengthening workshops, developing training materials, coordinating training activities, and monitoring outcomes. They will also conduct training sessions, develop and review training curriculum, and provide ongoing support and advice to RCK staff.

Description of Tasks

  • Conduct training sessions for various stakeholders in Nairobi and Garissa.
  • Develop and review training curriculum and materials.
  • Transfer practical knowledge and skills through interaction with stakeholders.
  • Ensure quality control and provide regular monitoring and evaluation.
  • Liaise with RCK staff on administrative matters.
  • Provide inputs to project reports.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Expected Deliverables and Outputs

  • Monthly work plans aligned with RCK’s operational Strategic Plan.
  • Monthly project progress reports.
  • Quarterly and bi-annual consultancy reports.
  • Training manuals.
  • Annual consultancy reports.
  • Weekly activity reports.

Consultancy Time Frame

The consultancy is for 6 months, starting from April 1st, 2024, and may be renewed subject to performance and funding availability until December 31st, 2027.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Law.
  • Admission to the bar as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya.
  • 3 years or more of relevant experience.
  • Experience in facilitating capacity building projects and refugee protection.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Excellent report writing skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Fluency in English and Kiswahili.

  • Professionalism, communication, technology awareness, teamwork, and managing performance.

Reporting Line

The consultant will report directly to the Director of Programmes and work closely with Programme Managers and other staff.
