About Plan International Urban Hub

The Plan International Urban Hub acts as a global facilitator for the Plan federation, uniting urban expertise in responsible, gender transformative, and sustainable urbanization and development for all children and young people.

About the Role

The Urban Programme Lead will provide leadership and technical support in developing sustainable urban programs, focusing on climate action, youth, and livelihoods. The role involves external representation, partnership building, strategic leadership, program development, and technical support.

Accountabilities and Main Work Responsibilities

  1. External Representation and Partnership Building in the MEESA region (50%)
    • Represent Plan International in building strong partnerships with relevant organizations
    • Explore and seek new partnerships complementing Plan’s programs
    • Support business development in urban programming and assist in forming coalitions and consortiums in bids
  2. Strategic Urban Leadership in the MEESA Region (20%)
    • Facilitate knowledge-sharing and collaboration in urban programming
    • Provide support and technical advisory services to Country Office partners
    • Assist in the development of new urban tools and resources
  3. Program Development and Technical Support of Plan Denmark-funded Urban Youth-led Climate Adaptation Programs (20%)
    • Collaborate with Plan Denmark and relevant country offices in developing and managing urban climate adaptation programs
    • Provide technical feedback on project reports, research pieces, and evaluations
    • Review proposals and collaborate on program development and business development
  4. Safeguarding Children and Young People (Safeguarding) and Gender Equality and Inclusion (GEI) (5%)
    • Ensure adherence to Plan International’s global policies for Safeguarding Children and Young People and Gender Equality and Inclusion
  5. Other Duties (5%)
    • Perform other assigned duties by the line manager

  • Strong communication and negotiation skills
  • Understanding of gender equality and women’s empowerment

Desirable Qualifications/Experience:

  • Experience in donor engagement
  • Master’s Degree in relevant discipline
  • Ability to influence/engage in advocacy
  • Experience in addressing development issues in the region
